METALLOGRAPHIC REPLIC
Replication Metallographic is a nondestructive sampling procedure which records and preserves the topography of a mellographic specimen, it suitable for obtaining microstructures, evidence of spheroidisation, creep damage, cracking and grain size. A replica is made at the workplace and then viewed at our laboratory.
APPLICATION
- To verify if compoments have been properly heat treated
- To assess microstructures of vessels, pipe that have exposed to fire damage
- To inspect surface flaws
- To monitor the evolution of microstructural changes in a component during its lifetime, this is particularly useful in assessing creep damage in elevated-temperature components (turbine rotors/blades, steam piping, heat exchangers, chemical reactors, pressure vessels, etc.)
BENEFITS
The inspection weld in new fabrication or repair according to the reference codes:
- Field metallography can be used to monitor quality of purchased components
- Field metallography can be used to monitor quality of purchased components
- Replicas are ideal for both flat and curved surfaces
- The techniques can be applied to a wide variety of materials
- AWS D1.1 for structure
LIMITATION
- The technique only analyzes the microstructure of the surface of a material/component
- The chemical composition of the constituents in the microstructure cannot be analyzed
- Greater accuracy than other nondestructive methods in determining the position of internal flaws, estimating their size, and characterizing their orientation, shape and nature.
- Contamination may be a problem in harsh or dusty environments
- Surface preparation is essential to production of an acceptable micrograph

FAILURE ANALYSIS
Failure analysis is the process of collecting and analyzing data to determine the cause of a failure, often with the goal of determining corrective actions or liability. The failure analysis process relies on collecting failed components for subsequent examination of the cause or causes of failure using a wide array of methods, especially microscopy and spectroscopy and Nondestructive testing (NDT) methods). A failure analysis engineer often plays a lead role in the analysis of failures, whether a component or product fails in service or if failure occurs in manufacturing or during production processing. In any case, one must determine the cause of failure to prevent future occurrence, and/or to improve the performance of the device, component or structure.
MECHANICAL INTEGRITY
APPLICATION
-
- Inspector API 510, API 570, API 653, API 577, API 580
- Inspection of static equipment.
- Analysis of the information.
- Calculations in accordance with regulations and codes with the aim of guaranteeing the safe operation of the same.
- Establishment of the remaining life time and next inspection periods for each equipment.
FITNESS FOR SERVICESS
Fitness for Service (FFS) is a best practice used by the oil & gas and chemical process industries for in-service equipment to determine its fitness for continued service. FFS serves as a rational basis for defining flaw acceptance limits and allows engineers to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable flaws and damage based on industry recognized and generally accepted good engineer practice, The FFS of any particular material is determined by performing a fitness-for-service assessment per standardized methods and criteria. Performing accurate FFS evaluations is an integral aspect of fixed equipment asset integrity management as an alternative to using the original construction design code. The FFS of a piece of equipment may be viewed both in terms of current and future FFS or remaining life. Most equipment can continue in service despite small flaws, and to repair or replace equipment that can still be used would be an unnecessary and costly expense. In addition, unnecessary weld repairs can do more harm than good and create unnecessary risks to personnel in many cases.
